 1999 black rabicano(coon-tailed). Gelded in 2008. Son of Smart Mate out of a money earning daughter of Docs Hickory. Black Hickory Mate is a trained cutter but has never been shown. Hat Ranch Quarter Horses purchased him in 2007 from Spencer and Stacy Harshman of Burdick, Kansas to breed to daughters of Scotches Showtime. Spencer trained "Black" with the help of talented professional but never had the money or time to haul him. But the best thing he did with him was to use him daily in his ranch work. Not only did he make him a really good ranch horse but Spencer's two little girs who were under six years old rode "Black" to help their dad do everyday ranch chores. |

| This good-minded attitude was
what sold him to us as another step in our program. It
didn't hurt that his sire is Smart Mate or that his
mother was by Docs Hickory and he's as "black as four
foot up a stovepipe", but his good mind and cowy
attitude is what got him to Tatum, New Mexico.
